What movement does for your mind
Less stress
Physical movement releases tension and reduces cortisol, the stress hormone.
Better mood
Exercise releases endorphins, natural mood elevators that help against anxiety and depression.
Better sleep
Regular activity improves sleep quality and helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle.
More energy
Paradoxically, spending energy on movement gives you more energy through the day.
Sharper focus
Movement increases blood flow to the brain, improving concentration.
Real resilience
Regular movement builds physical and mental capacity to handle hard days.
No gym membership required
Simple ways to work movement into a normal day:
- Take a 10-minute walk, outside if you can
- Stretch while watching TV, or at your desk between study blocks
- Dance to one full song, badly, with commitment
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
- Try yoga, tai chi, or a mindful walk in nature
- Practice deep breathing for two minutes before bed
